Being a huge fan of strange sci-fi art my artistic inspiration in most of my own works mostly comes from H.R. Giger. The creator of the alien from the Alien Vs Predator movies and the other Alien movies. He was born in Chur, Switzerland in 1940. Sadly enough Giger passed away in 2014 at the age of 74 leaving behind a loving wife and a legacy of amazing yet bizarre artworks which have been collected and carefully maintained by many museums. Most of his artworks had a very industrial and dark feeling which is obvious to see when you look at any of his pieces. Especially ones of his Alien he has become famous for. He also did not tend to stick to only one kind of platform. Giger would often employ sculpting, air brushing and oil paintings into his large array of artworks.
Since I first saw the first Alien movie back when I was 12 years of age Giger’s work has always intrigued me because of its organic yet very techpunk style. For example the artificial tubing coming out of organic flesh as seen in many of his works. And for some reason that combination of metal and flesh creating a greater or more terrifying being he shows in each piece just absolutely amazes me. I have actually even tried making some of my own previous sketches from the past by implementing his darker style with my own cyberpunk and cryptic art style. Which ended up with some rather interesting results. And I am hoping that I can eventually become as great as Giger one day. If you want to learn about H.R. Giger I’ve included the site to his official website below.
